About Nilesh Dalvi
Engineering leader with 18+ years of Machine Learning and Data experience spanning Industry and Academia. I co-founded Trooly in 2014, a Machine Learning startup with the mission of creating new trust mechanisms for the modern sharing economy. I was instrumental in creating a world-class Engineering/Machine Learning team, building the technology stack that powered our product, helping with the product vision and taking the company through multiple rounds of VC funding, an impressive set of customers, revenue and it's ultimate acquisition by Airbnb. At Airbnb, I head the Infrastructure group for Trust, which consists of several cross-functional teams: ML Infrastructure (building a real-time ML infra for Airbnb powering risk models), Applied ML (foundational models for risk vectors with novel ML technologies), Trust Platform (building core services that power Trust at scale across all Airbnb products), Tools (supporting the large Airbnb operations team) and Analytics. I have several success stories of applying cutting edge research to solve deep technological challenges at Facebook and Yahoo!. Prior to that I was actively involved in academic research in Machine Learning and Data Management. I have published over 50 articles in the top conferences and journals in the field, have over a dozen key patents in the field, served in numerous PC committees, editorial for top journals and served as a Program Chair for the International Conference on Very Large Databases in 2012. I received an honorable mention for the ACM SIGMOD Best Dissertation Award in 2007, and received the VLDB Test of Time award for the most influential paper in 10 years in 2014.
