Current Role at First Nations Health Authority
Brent Tom serves as the Regional Manager for Health Emergency Management at the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) in Vancouver Coastal. He has held this position since 2020, overseeing the establishment of health emergency plans and procedural guidelines for First Nations communities in the region. In addition to this role, he is also the Regional Deputy Director of the Emergency Operations Centre, where he provides management oversight for a regional team of staff. His responsibilities include maintaining relationships with various authorities to ensure effective health emergency management.
Previous Experience at First Nations Health Authority
Brent Tom has extensive experience at the First Nations Health Authority, having held multiple positions from 2013 to 2020. He began as a Senior Coordinator in Engagement & Coordination, Policy Planning & Transformation, where he worked for three years. He then served as Regional Health Liaison for four years before transitioning to his current roles. Additionally, he briefly held the position of Director of Regional Engagement in 2019 for two months. His roles have focused on engagement and coordination within the health sector.
Experience at Indian Residential School Survivors Society
Before his tenure at the First Nations Health Authority, Brent Tom worked at the Indian Residential School Survivors Society from 2007 to 2013. In this role, he served as Executive Assistant and Accounts Payable, contributing to the organization's operations for six years in the Vancouver, Canada area. This experience provided him with a foundation in administrative support and financial management within a community-focused organization.
Educational Background
Brent Tom studied at Malaspina University-College and The University of British Columbia. His educational background has equipped him with the knowledge and skills necessary for his roles in health emergency management and community engagement within the First Nations context.
Engagement in Health Emergency Management
In his current and previous roles, Brent Tom has represented the FNHA Vancouver Coastal team at various health emergency management forums. He actively supports the establishment of health emergency plans and maintains relationships with federal, provincial, regional, and local authorities. His work is focused on ensuring effective communication and coordination during health emergencies in First Nations communities.
