Joel Vaag, Executive Vice President at Fortegra
Joel Vaag serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary at Fortegra. He is responsible for leading Fortegra’s Specialty Program actuary group, applying his extensive expertise to manage the organization's actuarial functions. He joined Fortegra in September 2019 and has been pivotal in overseeing the pricing, reserving, and management of various insurance lines.
Joel Vaag's Education and Expertise
Joel Vaag holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University and an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Arizona. As a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, Vaag brings over 25 years of actuarial experience to his role. His expertise spans pricing, reserving, and management, with a particular focus on professional liability, auto, general liability, and workers’ compensation insurance.
Joel Vaag's Industry Experience
Prior to joining Fortegra, Joel Vaag worked at Houston International Insurance Group (HIIG) as Chief Actuary. He also served as Principal and Consulting Actuary at Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consultants, Inc., and held roles at Milliman, Inc. Vaag’s extensive experience in the actuarial field provides him with a broad and deep understanding of various insurance lines and actuarial practices.
