Jekaterina (Katia) Shulga is a Learning Designer and Principal Examiner in Russian Literature at the International Baccalaureate, with extensive experience in higher education and online learning. She is also a curriculum developer and author, currently writing a book on transgenerational trauma.
Work at FutureLearn
Currently, Jekaterina Shulga serves as a Learning Designer at FutureLearn, a position she has held since 2022. In this role, she collaborates with content producers, graphic designers, and video production teams to develop engaging online learning materials. Prior to this, she worked as an Editorial Specialist from 2021 to 2022 and as a Course Delivery Coordinator for four months in 2021. Shulga also leads 'Knowledge Sharing Sessions' at FutureLearn, where she presents and discusses the latest learning design theories. Additionally, she represents FutureLearn at business development meetings with prospective partners and clients.
Current Role at International Baccalaureate
Jekaterina Shulga has been a Principal Examiner in Russian Literature at the International Baccalaureate since 2016. In this capacity, she assesses student work and provides feedback on their understanding of Russian literature. Alongside this role, she has also been serving as a Curriculum Developer since 2021, contributing to the development of educational materials and programs.
Education and Expertise
Shulga holds a PhD in Russian Literature and East European Studies from UCL SSEES, which she completed from 2008 to 2013. She also earned an MA in Russian Studies from the same institution in 2008. Earlier, she obtained a BA Hons in English and American Literature from the University of East Anglia from 2004 to 2007. Additionally, she completed a Teaching in Higher Education qualification at University College London in 2011.
Previous Work Experience
Before her current roles, Jekaterina Shulga held various academic positions. She was a Teaching Fellow at UCL SSEES from 2014 to 2017 and a Postgraduate Admissions Administrator at the University of East Anglia from 2013 to 2014. She also worked as a Lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London from 2013 to 2014 and as a Post Graduate Teaching Assistant at University College London from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, she briefly worked as the Co-ordinator of Literary Projects at Academia Rossica in 2012.
Writing Projects
Jekaterina Shulga is currently writing a book that explores transgenerational trauma, detailing her family's history from 19th Century Russian nobility to their experiences of deportation and imprisonment in Gulag camps. This project reflects her academic background and personal narrative, contributing to the discourse on trauma and memory.
