About Sammy Gibbons

Through my reporting over the past six years, I worked to find voices that weren't being heard in the communities I covered. I increased coverage of the LGBTQ+ community in Door County, Wisconsin, and published a unique Women's Issue as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Cardinal. The Door County Advocate hired me in 2019 as the sole general news reporter covering the county, so I kept track of local government, crime, education, all the other puzzle pieces. I'm still writing news and proud to say I've stuck with passion since age 15. I wrote for my high school newspaper, and by my senior year of college, I ran UW-Madison's student newspaper, The Daily Cardinal.I'm emboldened in front of the camera or microphone; I've hosted radio shows, podcasts and video series in my career. But writing is my strongest skill for certain. Beyond news, I write the occasional music journalism piece. I've interviewed up-and-coming musicians and reviewed concerts. And, two journals have published fiction short stories I've written. It's clear in all my storytelling that the styles complement one another. I love editing and participating in writing critique groups because it motivates me to help other people comb through words until they have a beautiful, tangle-free story. I'm not afraid of exchanging feedback and working collaboratively.
