About Charles A. "Anthony" Ellis, PhD

I am a hybrid data scientist and biomedical engineer with an expertise in developing and applying interpretable and explainable artificial intelligence methods to gain unique insights into models and data. I also have an interest in the commercial side of innovation that has led me to co-found an early stage biotech venture that has engaged with Georgia Tech's Create-X: Startup Launch and Creative Destruction Lab. I have developed a number of novel explainability methods for multimodal classifiers, for CNNs trained on EEG data, and for unsupervised clustering methods. While developing these methods and performing other analyses, I have gained machine learning and deep learning experience in MATLAB and in Python’s scikit-learn, keras, numpy, and pandas as well as experience developing MATLAB and Python scripts for machine learning pipelines that are deployable on both local clusters and clouds. I also have experience with a variety of clustering and dimensionality reduction techniques in scikit-learn and scikit-fuzzy. Through my work with TotemID, I have developed skills in business strategy and development, customer discovery, competitive analysis, and human resource management. My long-term goal is to help lead the development of innovative commercial AI-based medicine and healthcare solutions that will improve human lives.
