About Ed Bailey
For more than 20 years, I've been dedicated to helping Georgia Tech's Professional Education Program build and grow it's online adult education programs. During this time, I've been fortunate to work with and learn from some of the top professionals in our industry. As a result of my time with GTPE, I have a well-rounded, diversified understanding of how adults learn best and what it takes to create a quality, effective online program. My specific strengths include team leadership, instructional technologies, instructional design best practices, faculty and customer support. I also have a strong foundation and appreciation for quality adult pedagogy. How people learn and transfer information into their long term memory has been a passion of mine since graduate school. I am also an advocate for using video and web conferencing technologies to bring learning communities together. It's important we do not limit our access to subject matter experts located in our communities and local learning institutions. I currently manage an 11-member team of audio/video professionals responsible for the production and delivery of nearly 4,000 hours of for-credit online content each academic year. My team is also responsible for the support and delivery of multiple online synchronous programs to GT students located around the world. A vital lesson I've learned in my 20+ year career is placing content online and calling it an online program is not sufficient. We must take advantage of modern learning technologies, active learning pedagogy and enthusiastic instructors to avoid replicating the traditional pitfalls associated with the traditional higher education paradigm. Today's society is eager to learn the necessary skills to keep up with a modern workforce. It's up to our industry to make that learning experience straight forward, engaging, effective and enjoyable.
