Varvaris has a diverse educational background. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Concordia University from 1986 to 1989. He later studied Law at Carleton University, achieving an Honours Bachelor of Arts from 1990 to 1993. In 2009, he participated in the Japan Market Expansion Competition in Tokyo, where he obtained a Business Certificate in 2010.

In this capacity, he oversaw the relocation of the Canadian High Commission offices in London, United Kingdom, ensuring that the project met the required standards and objectives.
