Filomena Tassi has an extensive educational background. She studied at Lakehead University, earning a Bachelor's degree in her first year. She also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from St. Jerome's University and a Bachelor of Laws from Western University. Additionally, she pursued a Master's degree in Religious Education at the University of Toronto and studied Ethics at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where she worked towards a Doctor of Education.
Previous Government Positions
Filomena Tassi has held several significant positions within the Government of Canada. She served as Minister of Seniors from 2018 to 2019, Minister of Labour from 2019 to 2021, and Minister of Public Services and Procurement from 2021 to 2022. She also acted as Deputy Government Whip from 2017 to 2018.
Community Involvement and Initiatives
Filomena Tassi has been actively involved in community initiatives. She co-founded the D.R.E.A.M.S. program in 2000, which has supported housing projects in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, she established the Catholic Leadership Interdisciplinary Program (CLIP) in 2010, focusing on mission work and exchanges with Indigenous communities. Her commitment extends to youth sports, where she has served as a coach and manager for hockey and soccer teams.
