Anne Hayes serves as the Director of the Research, Analysis, and Evaluation Branch at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. With a background in public health and extensive experience in health policy, she has contributed significantly to strategic research initiatives and COVID-19 response efforts.
Current Role at Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Anne Hayes serves as the Director of the Research, Analysis, and Evaluation Branch at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. In this role, she has led the modernization of the research function by establishing the Applied Health Evidence Program, which aims to guide strategic research investments. Her responsibilities include providing technical support to various health advisory tables, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previous Experience in Health Management
Prior to her current position, Anne Hayes held multiple roles at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. She was the Manager of the Chronic Disease Management and Prevention Unit from 2013 to 2015 and served as the Senior Coordinator for Smoke Free Ontario from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, she worked as a Team Lead for five months in 2013 and briefly as the Manager of the Integrated Health Benefits Unit in 2015.
Educational Background in Public Health and Management
Anne Hayes obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Management from Michigan State University, where she studied from 1979 to 1983. She furthered her education by earning a Master of Public Health in Health Behaviour and Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between 1988 and 1990.
Leadership in COVID-19 Research Initiatives
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anne Hayes established the Evidence Synthesis Network, which comprises leading experts across Ontario. She actively partnered with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to create funding opportunities for COVID-19 research. Her involvement has strengthened the connection between the research community and health system knowledge users.
Recognition and Awards in Health Policy
Anne Hayes has received multiple accolades for her contributions to health policy and research initiatives. She has been recognized with the ACE and Amethyst Awards for her strategic work within the Ministries of Health and Long-Term Care. Her efforts have significantly impacted health management and policy development in Ontario.
