Karen Hay obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Saskatchewan, completing her studies from 1995 to 1999. She furthered her education by earning a Master of Science in Community Health & Epidemiology from the same institution, which she completed from 2000 to 2002. Her academic background provides a strong foundation for her work in public health.

Career in Ontario Ministry of Health

Throughout her career at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Karen Hay has held various managerial roles. She served as Manager of Infectious Diseases Policies and Programs from 2007 to 2011 and later as Panorama Business Lead, Manager of Stakeholder Management from 2012 to 2016. These positions involved developing policies and managing programs related to infectious diseases and public health integration.

Experience in Epidemiology

Before her roles in public health management, Karen Hay worked as an Infectious Diseases Epidemiologist at the Regional Municipality of York from 2002 to 2005. In this capacity, she focused on monitoring and analyzing disease patterns, contributing to effective public health responses and strategies.
