Kate De Sousa is a Team Lead for Northern Health Programs at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, where she has worked since 2017. She holds a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo and has extensive experience in health program management and accounting policy.
Current Role at Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Kate De Sousa serves as the Team Lead for Northern Health Programs at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. She has held this position since 2017, overseeing the day-to-day supervision of staff assigned to these programs in Sudbury, Ontario. In her role, she is responsible for the creation of procedures, guidelines, and operational policies that support contract management for Northern Health Programs. Additionally, she leads the development of accountability agreements with service providers for primary health care services.
Previous Experience in Health and Accounting
Prior to her current role, Kate De Sousa held multiple positions within the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. She worked as a Senior Analyst in Risk Assessment from 2010 to 2015, and as Manager of Accounting & Reporting for a brief period in 2016. She also served as Lead in Accounting Policy for one year in 2015-2016. Her earlier career included roles such as Manager of Process Design and Control at CML Healthcare and Manager of Business Assurance and Controls at Magna Entertainment Corp.
Educational Background in Health and Accounting
Kate De Sousa has a strong educational foundation in health and accounting. She is currently a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Rural and Northern Health at Laurentian University, a program she began in 2019. She also holds a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo, which she completed in 2005. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the same university, graduating in 2004.
Leadership in Health Program Development
In her current position, Kate De Sousa supervises the development of requests for business planning and in-year program funding allocations. She has been instrumental in leading the development of accountability agreements with service providers for primary health care services since 2017. Her leadership ensures that Northern Health Programs are effectively managed and aligned with the needs of the community.
