Tayyaba Jiwani, PhD, is a Policy Analyst and Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellow currently working at the Ontario Ministry of Health Digital Health Division. She has extensive experience in research, editing, and science communication, having held various positions at institutions such as the University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children.
Current Position as Policy Analyst
Tayyaba Jiwani serves as a Policy Analyst and Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellow at the Ontario Ministry of Health Digital Health Division. She began this role in 2020 and continues to contribute to the development and implementation of health policies in Ontario. Her work focuses on integrating scientific research into health policy, enhancing the effectiveness of digital health initiatives.
Previous Experience in Academia
Tayyaba Jiwani has a significant background in academia, having worked as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Toronto from 2011 to 2018. During this time, she engaged in extensive research, contributing to the scientific community. Additionally, she served as an Undergraduate Honours Research Student at the same institution from 2010 to 2011, further solidifying her academic foundation.
Editorial Roles in Scientific Publications
Jiwani has held various editorial positions in scientific publications. She was a Senior Editor at the Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences from 2009 to 2010 and later became Co-Editor-in-Chief at the same journal from 2010 to 2011. She also served as Editor-in-Chief at The Training Post Magazine, SickKids, from 2012 to 2016, and as Co-Founding Editor at Jamhoor Magazine from 2017 to 2020.
Freelance Editing and Communication
From 2014 to 2019, Tayyaba Jiwani worked as a self-employed freelance editor, focusing on science manuscripts, grants, and policy documents. This role allowed her to apply her expertise in science communication and editing to various projects. Additionally, she was a Scientific Communications Specialist at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation for eight months in 2020.

Tayyaba Jiwani earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Toronto, completing her studies from 2011 to 2018. Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Toronto - Victoria University, studying from 2007 to 2011. Her educational background has equipped her with a strong foundation in scientific research and policy analysis.
