About Venkat Krishnan
I am a Senior Manager for Power Markets at ICF. I have subject matter expertise in energy markets. renewables & storage, and transmission reliability; with a strong 12+years of EE background and experience after my PhD degree. Prior to joining ICF, at PA consulting, I helped our clients answer key questions related to asset interconnection, reliability and upgrade risks, transmission planning, ISO market's nodal level congestion and curtailment risks, nodal LMP basis and revenue risks as it pertains to asset evaluations and M&A projects. My deep EE background and understanding of emerging energy system technologies also helped evaluating utility IRPs and be a part of expert witness testimony teams. Before joining PA Consulting Group, I also worked for ~7 years as a senior engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at Golden, Colorado. At NREL, I was a principal investigator and technical lead for several U.S. Department of Energy funded projects related to, 1) quantifying the impacts and benefits of integrating higher shares of variable renewable generation, 2) developing solutions for grid flexibility and resilience, and 3) developing pathways for advanced sensing and data analytics. I hold M.S. and PhD. degrees in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, Ames; with additional four years of postdoctoral research experience on power systems. I have published more than 75 articles in several high impact journals and peer-reviewed conferences, with >2000 citations. I have been an IEEE senior member.
