About Deborah Silver
Dr. Deborah Silver is the Executive Director of the Professional Science Master’s Program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey on all three campuses (Newark, New Brunswick & Camden). This program offers the Master of Business & Science (MBS) degree which is a combination of a science master’s with courses in business. I helped innovate and build the program to include all areas of science and technology. It is now close to 700 students and one of the largest master's programs at Rutgers and the most comprehensive professional science master's programs in the country. In addition to the MBS degree, she has been an academic innovator and has created a number of very successful programs at Rutgers. She is currently (2013-) part of the Board of Directors of the National Professional Science Master’s Association (NPSMA) and on the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors (2021-). She is a full Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers. From 2008-2010 she served as Associate Dean of Continuing and Professional Education for the School of Engineering. She received a B.S. from Columbia University School of Engineering, and an MS. and a Ph.D. from Princeton University in Computer Science. Her area of research is Scientific Visualization. She has taught courses in Computer Graphics, Visualization, Data Structures, Programming Methodologies, Information Technology, Software Engineering and Robotics. She has numerous publications in Visualization and has been funded by the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Energy, the US Air Force, Department of Education, and Department of Labor. Her current research activities include activity detection in 3D time varying simulations, volume graphics, oceanographic visualization, medical visualization, and visualization literacy and education. Prof. Silver has been co-chair of the papers session and program co-chair of the yearly IEEE Visualization conference and has been a member of the program committee. She has also been Vice Chair of Operations for the IEEE Technical Committee on Computer Graphics, and a member of editorial committee of the IEEE Transaction on Visualization and Computer Graphics.
