Robert F. Willard Navy Career
Robert F. Willard began his distinguished Navy career as an F-14 aviator. His extensive service includes commanding the amphibious flagship USS Tripoli (LPH 10), where the ship received a Navy Unit Commendation during the Persian Gulf. He also served as the executive officer of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and commanded Fighter Squadron 51 ('Screaming Eagles'). His commands expanded to Carrier Group Five aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and the U.S. Seventh Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan. His career culminated as the commander of the U.S. Pacific Command.

Throughout his Navy career, Robert F. Willard held a series of high-level leadership roles. He served twice on the Joint Staff as a flag officer and was the deputy and chief of staff for the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In addition, he became the 34th vice chief of Naval Operations in March 2005 and later assumed command of the U.S. Pacific Fleet in May 2007. His leadership culminated in taking command of the U.S. Pacific Command on October 19, 2009.
