She was the first woman President of the California Mining Association in its 100-year history, and was inducted into the United States National Mining Hall of Fame as the first living woman and the first woman in more than 100 years. Additionally, she has been honored as one of the 'Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining' by Women in Mining – United Kingdom, and recognized by the National Association of Women in Construction with their Person-of-the-Year Award. She has also received the Person-of-the-Year award from both the New Mexico Mining Association and the Arizona Rock Products Association.

She has headed up Mineral Rights and Public Lands for Freeport-McMoRan and managed Mineral Rights and Tribal Relations for Lafarge Holcim. With extensive experience overseeing billions of dollars in surface and mineral rights, including more than 1,000 properties in the United States, her expertise is widely recognized. She was also appointed by three Secretaries of Interior to the federal Bureau of Land Management Resource Advisory Council, serving for nine years, including roles as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Mining Sub-Committee.
