About Graham Watkins
As the Chief of the Climate Change Division at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the past three and a half years, I lead a diverse and interdisciplinary team of 60 experts who work on climate change issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. I advise IDB Management on the development of climate-relevant strategies, instruments, and approaches to respond to the needs of borrowing member countries. I also engage with and help develop climate-related plans and policies with national and sub-national institutions. With a Master's Degree in Zoology from University of Oxford and over 30 years of experience in leading biodiversity, sustainability, and climate initiatives, I have a proven track record of leading change and innovation in the region. I have contributed to the integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation into IDB operations, programming, and policies, and helped to accelerate the transition to decarbonization and climate resilience through the contribution of sustainable finance. I have also led knowledge and applied research on climate change issues, especially on climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure, resulting in multiple publications and awards. My mission is to leverage my expertise and leadership to support the development of a more sustainable and inclusive region.
