Additionally, she obtained a Master's in Public Health from the University of Utah School of Medicine, studying from 2005 to 2007. Her academic background also includes a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota, which she completed from 1979 to 1984.

Elizabeth Joy completed her Family Medicine Residency Program at Hennepin County Medical Center from 1988 to 1991. She has held leadership positions in various organizations, including serving as President of the American College of Sports Medicine from 2016 to 2017. She actively participates in committees focused on exercise and physical activity, chairing the Exercise Is Medicine Governance Committee and the Healthcare Workgroup for the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance.

Achievements

Elizabeth Joy has contributed to the field of sports medicine through her role as Associate Editor for Current Sports Medicine Reports and as a member of the Editorial Board for The Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah School of Medicine and the University of Utah College of Health, where she is involved in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology. She developed and directed the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Utah from 1998 until 2011.
