Virtual reality developer, presenter, and VR/AR subject matter expert. Builder of simulations and of data analytics applications in Unity/C#. Neo4j property graph database developer. Founder and Lead, Johnson Space Center XR Community of Practice. Immersed in the Houston VR ecosystem. Co-Founder of the Immersive Technology Conference, 2016. Founded Aviar Technology, 2017 15 years in the NASA/Johnson Space Center community. He is the founder and lead of the JSC VR/AR/MR (XR) Community of Practice. As lead he organizes community speakers and activities designed to get XR developers on campus out of their silos and to evangelize the technology and to network. Prior to NASA, James worked as an independent database consultant, building solutions for diverse clients including AIG, Westinghouse, Hermann Hospital, Apache Corp, Amegy Bank, Tenneco, Dixie Chemical and several smaller firms. In 2004 he joined Barrios Technology at JSC and in 2006 invented a developer job in the Operations Technology Facility prototyping lab in the JSC Mission Operations Directorate. After a short layoff he returned to NASA at KBRwyle in 2015 building financial reporting database and spreadsheet applications James believes in volunteering and since 2013 has been involved in Engineers Without Borders and has served as chapter president since 2016. He has traveled to Kenya twice with EWB. Since 2013 he has coached chess at Clear Lake City Elementary and was named the school’s volunteer of the year for 2017 - 2018 for his work with the kids. Previously he volunteered for 15 years at Interfaith Caring Ministries including six on the board, the last three as vice president.
