Elhoussieny holds a medical degree (M.B.B.ch) from Ain Shams University, where he studied from 1987 to 1993. He also earned a Master of Science in Radiology from Ain Shams University between 1998 and 2001. Additionally, he obtained an MBA from Maastricht School of Management from 2003 to 2005 and an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate.

He participated in the ZUMA-3 study for Tecartus, which targets relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
