About Cheng Zhang
Aloha!! My name is Cheng. I am a data scientist based in Toronto. 👨💻I graduated with a degree in Mathematical Physics from the University of Waterloo in 2019 summer, then I decided to join a bootcamp in Toronto to explore my curiosity in data science. 12 weeks of full-time study rewarded me a professional diploma in data science, with my capstone project "comparing various machine learning models on a multi-classification task". As a new learner in data science, I knew that I still have a lot to study but I am always glad that I have chosen the right career path for myself. 🏃 Soon after graduated from the data science bootcamp, I immersed myself into all sorts of study resources related to data science. I have taken courses on Coursera, Udacity to expand my knowledge in more advanced topics such as Computer Vision & Natural Language Processing. Meanwhile, I have also started writing articles on Medium and published results on Towards Data Science, Geek Culture and Start it Up. I don't want to limit myself to the data scientist's daily work but I would like to learn the details behind implementing ML / DL models and the latest results from advanced researches. 🧗🏻♂️With the above mindset, I completed several Udacity nano-degrees in areas of Machine Learning Engineer, Deep Learning, NLP and Data Scientist. More and more I feel that I have grown into a habit of consistent studying and writing especially within the year 2021. 🏂🏻In the beginning of 2021, I am very honoured to join the Sync as a data science intern. My role is more like an intersection between data scientist, data engineer and machine learning engineer. Through this work experience, I learned practical experience of creating data pipelines, tuning and deploying machine learning models on AWS and many valuable software engineering skills. And I truly enjoyed the collaboration between teammates from different tech backgrounds. For the next steps 📚: - I would like to focus on my current job and work on more meaningful ML / DL projects. - I will keep writing my latest side projects on Towards Data Science. - I have started reading classic research papers as a way to help me truly understand some concepts. - I am building my Github portfolio and will keep it updated.
