In 2008, he was awarded a disability rating due to serious injuries sustained during his military service.

Dr. Young authored the technical components of the original ID Theft law in Massachusetts (201 CMR 17.00, 2008), which became a cornerstone for a national discussion on ID Theft legislation. His foresight on ID Theft issues was validated in 2020. He was cited in major publications like CIO Magazine, Network World, and Government Technology for his expertise. Dr. Young was also honored as Information Security Executive of the Year for North America in the Government Category in both 2009 and 2010.
