Ed Baird is currently serving as the Director of Maintenance of Way at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). He began this role in 2023.
Previous Roles and Experience
Ed Baird has extensive experience with various roles at the MBTA and other organizations. From 2020 to 2023, he was Deputy Director of Infrastructure - Electrical Engineering at MBTA. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Director of Power Systems Maintenance from 2016 to 2019. He also held the role of Manager of Design - Electrical in 2016. At Fischbach & Moore Electric Group, LLC., he worked as a Senior Project Manager from 2019 to 2020. Ed has also held leadership positions at KM Kelly Inc. and DelSignore Electrical Contractors, Inc.
Education and Qualifications
Ed Baird has an Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn Foster Group, completed over a period from 1970 to 2014. He also holds a Certificate in Electrical Construction and Design from Franklin Institute of Boston, achieved between 1970 and 1982. His extensive qualifications include various master and journeyman electrical licenses across multiple states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Certifications and Licenses
Ed Baird holds numerous certifications and licenses. He has been a Massachusetts Licensed Construction Supervisor and Licensed Hoisting Engineer since 1998 and has held various electrical licenses since the mid-1980s. Ed is also a BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) since 1999 and holds both 10 Hour and 30 Hour OSHA Certifications. He has held electrical licenses in Vermont, Maine, and Arizona as well.
Military Service
Ed Baird served in the United States Coast Guard as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, Electricians Mate, from 1992 to 2000 at the District 1 Support Center Boston.
Teaching and Training Roles
Ed Baird has also contributed to training future professionals. He was an Instructor for 5th year Electrical Apprentice Training at IBEW Local 96 from 2008 to 2010, and held a similar role at Worcester Public Schools' Nightlife Program during the same period.
