About Patrick Doyle
I am a Chemical Engineering Professor at MIT with broad research interests ranging from fundamental studies of single DNA molecules, to nanoemulsions, to nanofluidic/microfluidic devices, to the design of new technologies for detecting DNA, miRNA and proteins. A thrust in my group is the use of microfluidics and soft matter concepts for pharmaceutical formulations. Another thrust in my research group is the development of barcoded technologies for the sensitive detection of miRNA, with applications in cancer and anti- counterfeiting. I am also the co-founder of the startup companies Firefly Bioworks (acquired by Abcam in 2015), and Motif Micro (acquired by YPB Systems in 2018). I work closely with many companies as either a consultant, SAB advisor or through sponsored research in my lab. I am also the Graduate Officer in the Chemical Engineering Department at MIT. Specialties: Micro- and nano-fluidics, multiplexed sensing, DNA biophysics, nanoemulsions, colloids, rheology, Brownian dynamics simulations, particle engineering in Pharma
