About Cory Kelly
Cory Kelly serves as a Health Program Specialist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) since 2021, bringing extensive experience in neuroscience and health research. Previously, he held leadership roles at UW Medicine and the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute, and he has a strong academic background in medical physiology and translational health sciences.

Cory Kelly has been employed as a Health Program Specialist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) since 2021. In this role, he contributes to the advancement of neurological research and public health initiatives. His position is based in Bethesda, Maryland, where he manages a multi-million dollar research portfolio and oversees a research team of approximately 40 individuals.
Previous Experience in Healthcare and Research
Before joining NINDS, Cory Kelly served as the Associate Director at the Stroke & Applied NeuroScience Center at UW Medicine from 2013 to 2021. He also worked as a Laboratory Research Assistant at the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute for 11 months in 2013. Additionally, he has a background in military service, having spent 12 years in the US Army as Infantry Reconnaissance & Surveillance from 2001 to 2013.
Education and Expertise
Cory Kelly holds a Master of Science in Medical Physiology from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he studied from 2016 to 2021. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, expected to complete in 2025. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell & Molecular Biology from Seattle University and has completed programs in Engineering Innovation in Health and Patient Safety and Quality at the University of Washington.
Research Contributions and Projects
Cory Kelly has conducted significant research, including a first-in-human cerebrovascular mitochondrial infusion study, which involved preliminary animal work in Peru. He developed and deployed clinical decision support software for NIH-funded PTSD research across 24 sites. Additionally, he participated in particle accelerator research in Grenoble, France, supporting NIH-funded stroke research.
Service on Institutional Review Board
Cory Kelly served on the neuroscience section of the University of Washington Institutional Review Board. In this capacity, he contributed to the ethical oversight of research involving human subjects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting the integrity of scientific research.
