Since 2021, Shakila Khan has been serving as a Grants Associate with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in New York, New York. In this role, she supports the NBA Foundation’s grantmaking efforts, which specifically aim to empower Black youth. By focusing on social impact, she collaborates with stakeholders to publish grants that enhance opportunities and initiatives for underserved communities.
Previous Positions
Before joining the NBA, Shakila Khan gained extensive experience through various roles. From 2020 to 2021, she worked as a Researcher at the Museum of the City of New York. Concurrently, she served as an Oral History Research Assistant at Hunter College. Previously, she assisted at the Chicago History Museum as a Research Assistant in 2019 and interned with Sakhi for South Asian Women focusing on youth programs the same year. Khan held leadership positions at Generation Citizen and directed photography at the Tribeca Film Institute in 2017. Additionally, she contributed to Open Society Foundations as a Research Intern and worked on fostering democracy with Generation Citizen as a Democracy Coach.
Educational Background
Shakila Khan graduated summa cum laude from Hunter College, CUNY, achieving a degree in Political Science and Asian American Studies. Beyond her Bachelor’s Degree, she secured a Certificate of Completion from the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. Additionally, she acquired proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic from the Qasid Arabic Institute.
