Tahesha Way serves as New Jersey's Lieutenant Governor. She has an extensive history of public service, including her role as the 34th Secretary of State of New Jersey since the beginning of the Murphy Administration. In this capacity, she oversaw the state Division of Elections, working to secure democracy and ensure broad, fair access to the vote.

Education and Legal Expertise of Tahesha Way

Tahesha Way graduated from Brown University, where she was active in student organizations such as the collegiate chapter of the NAACP and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. During her legal education, she clerked for the Virginia Legal Aid Society and the United Steelworkers of America, honing skills that would be fundamental to her career in law and public service.

Tahesha Way's Leadership in National and State Organizations

Tahesha Way has held several leadership positions in various organizations. She was the first Black person and the first Secretary from New Jersey to lead the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) as President in 2022-2023. She continues to serve on the NASS Executive Board as Immediate Past President. Additionally, she has served in numerous roles at the state and local level, including as an Administrative Law Judge for New Jersey and on the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Throughout her career, Tahesha Way has been involved in multifaceted roles that highlight her commitment to public service. She chaired New Jersey’s Complete Count Commission during the 2020 US Census and served as Special Counsel for the Passaic County Board of Social Services. She has also been a Council Member for the New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council and served on the Board of Directors for the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.

Personal Life of Tahesha Way

Tahesha Way lives in Wayne, New Jersey, with her husband Charles and their four children, Fallon, Farrah, Faythe, and Fiona. Raised in the Bronx by her late parents, Robert and Rosa Wright, she shares a deep connection to her roots and community. She is a member of multiple professional associations, including the New Jersey State Bar Association and the National Association of Women Judges.
