Julie Supan is an accomplished business and marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience building original, defensible market positions; creating brands; leading qualitative customer research initiatives; executing defining go-to-market (GTM) launches; and setting up teams for success. Julie is hired by founders and CEOs, and works with a few, select technology companies per year. She effectively positions and differentiates distinct products and services in highly competitive, cluttered and new markets, develops the GTM strategy, and helps lead teams to a successful outcome. Julie consults to prominent VC firms and has served as a highly-rated Guest Lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business since 2015. Current and previous clients include: Airbnb, Aalto, Counsyl, Crew, Discord, Dropbox, Flipboard, Merit, Scoop, Sunshine, Thumbtack, TuneIn, Weebly and many more. Julie defined the original position, developed the brand, and handled the go-to-market launch for transformative companies such as Discord (2019-2020), Thumbtack (2013-2014), Dropbox (2011-2012), Airbnb (2010-2011) and Airbnb Plus (2017-2018), and YouTube (2005-2009), along with dozens of other consumer technology companies. Prior to consulting, Julie helped build the foundational position and brand for YouTube, and officially launched the company in Dec 2005. She joined YouTube as Senior Director of Marketing in Jan 2006. During YouTube’s meteoric rise, her team led all branding, grassroots marketing, policy, communications, promotions, and entertainment relations, and she served as the primary spokesperson for the company. After YouTube’s $1.6B acquisition to Google, Julie led high-profile marketing and corporate communications programs for YouTube until 2009 including: the CNN-YouTube Debates, The Oprah Winfrey “YouTube” show and the PEOPLE Magazine Red Carpet Reporter Campaign with Revlon. Julie’s work at YouTube led her to being named Advertising Age 2006 “Entertainment Marketer of the Year” and BrandWeek 2006 “Marketer of the Year.”
