Mandela said that "overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice." For me, reducing and preventing human suffering in times of conflict is also an act of justice, compassion, and moral responsibility. It is one that often takes courage, risk, and tact. I build humanitarian teams and principled, data-driven strategies that help assist and protect civilians fleeing from or trapped in some of the worst situations of armed conflict. I am the Country Director for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Sudan, where we re-established humanitarian operations in 2020. Previously I was the global programme lead for NRC's Covid-19 response, which improved the public health situation for over three million people in humanitarian contexts around the world in the first four months since the pandemic was announced. Before that, I was the Head of Programme for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Afghanistan, a humanitarian organisation focused on forced displacement, for the past five years. I have also worked on humanitarian issues in the regional Syria response and Yemen. When I'm not in the field, I'm with my partner and our beautiful baby girl. I relish watching film, cooking, photography, and - increasingly - spinning
