He also conducted multiple Phase II Clinical Trials evaluating patient-specific lung cancer vaccines, and a trial using a gene-modified Listeria monocytogenes vector expressing human Mesothelin as a vaccine for advanced mesothelioma patients.

Daniel Sterman has worked closely with Dr. Harvey Pass, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, to develop multidisciplinary translational research programs in lung cancer and mesothelioma at NYU. He was the lead clinical investigator in the Thoracic Oncology Research Group at Penn and serves as the Principal Investigator of Project 1 for the NCI Program Project Grant for Immunotherapy of Malignant Mesothelioma, which has been continuously funded since 1998.
