Caroline Spencer serves as the Operations and Partnerships Manager for the Gender & Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) programme at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London, United Kingdom. She has held this position since 2015, where she has been responsible for the operational management of a nine-year longitudinal study. This study aims to understand the impact of various interventions on adolescent development. Spencer has played a significant role in facilitating cross-country collaborations within the GAGE programme, enhancing research outcomes in regions such as Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Previous Experience
Before joining ODI, Caroline Spencer worked as a Consultant at Social Development Direct for 11 months in 2015. Her career also includes a role as Programme Manager at the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) from 2007 to 2011. Additionally, she served as Partnerships and Networks Programme Manager for the Climate & Development Knowledge Network at LEAD International from 2011 to 2014. Earlier in her career, she was a Coordinator for the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group (APPCCG) at The CarbonNeutral Company from 2007 to 2008.
Educational Background
Caroline Spencer earned her BA in English Literature and German from the University of Leeds, where she studied from 2001 to 2005. She furthered her education at King's College London, obtaining an MA in International Peace and Security from 2006 to 2007. Spencer also participated in an ERASMUS program at the University of Tübingen, studying German Literature and Spanish from 2003 to 2004.
Research Contributions
In her current role at ODI, Caroline Spencer has contributed to the GAGE programme's research efforts by managing partnerships that support the study of 18,000 adolescents across six countries. Her work has been instrumental in ensuring that the programme effectively gathers and analyzes data to inform interventions aimed at improving adolescent development.
