Current Role as Senior HPC DevOps Engineer
Daren Napper currently serves as a Senior HPC DevOps Engineer at PGS, a position he has held since 2020. In this role, he manages the infrastructure, facilities, compute, storage, and network of a high-performance computing (HPC) datacentre. This datacentre houses over 3000 Linux servers and more than 12 petabytes of onsite storage. His responsibilities include overseeing the operation and maintenance of critical systems to ensure optimal performance.
Previous Experience at PGS
Daren Napper has extensive experience at PGS, where he worked for a total of 13 years in various roles. He began as a Computer Operations Shift Leader from 1993 to 2006, followed by a position as a Computer System Support Engineer from 2006 to 2014. He then advanced to Senior Computer Systems Engineer, serving from 2014 to 2020. Throughout his tenure, he contributed to the development and support of computing systems.
Technical Skills and Networking Technologies
Daren Napper utilizes a range of networking technologies in his work, including those from Arista, Dell, Force10, and HP. His expertise extends to managing complex systems and providing remote support for global sites in cities such as Houston, Oslo, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, Rio, Cairo, Lagos, and Luanda. He also handles IBM TSM/HSM/TSLM library media storage and works with various storage platforms, including Lustre, GPFS, Panasas, and NetApp.
Education and Training
Daren Napper studied at Northbrook College of Design & Technology, where he achieved a qualification in Art & Design from 1987 to 1988. This educational background provided him with foundational skills that have supported his career in technology and engineering.
