About Sofia Villanueva

Sofia Villanueva is a geophysicist with extensive experience in seismic data processing and imaging. She currently works at PGS in Oslo and has previously held positions at BGP International and Universidad Central de Venezuela.

Work at PGS

Sofia Villanueva has been employed at PGS as a Geophysicist since 2019. In her role, she focuses on marine seismic data processing and imaging, specifically working with both conventional and GeoStreamer TM data. She is responsible for implementing advanced imaging algorithms to convert raw seismic acquisition recordings into detailed 3D subsurface images. Additionally, she manages quality control and client communication, ensuring that project standards are met and client expectations are addressed.

Previous Experience

Before joining PGS, Sofia Villanueva worked at BGP International as a Junior Seismic Analyst from 2013 to 2016 in Venezuela. Her experience also includes roles as a Student Assistant at Universidad Central de Venezuela, where she contributed to projects in Petrophysics and Filters Theory from 2010 to 2012. These positions provided her with foundational knowledge and practical skills in geophysics and seismic analysis.

Education and Expertise

Sofia Villanueva holds a Bachelor's degree in Geophysical Engineering from Universidad Central de Venezuela, completed in 2013. She furthered her education with a Master's degree in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics from Universitetet i Oslo, which she obtained in 2018. Additionally, she studied at CVA Centro Venezolano Americano, where she earned a qualification as a Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instructor. Her educational background supports her expertise in geophysics and seismic data analysis.

Professional Achievements

Throughout her career, Sofia Villanueva has been involved in significant projects, including Hammerfest Loppa PGS20M01NBS and Viking Graben PGS19M04VIK. Her specialized tasks include SBO & Designature, RMC correction, Tidal statics, Multiple Attenuation, Noise Attenuation, Radon Demultiple, and Velocity Analysis. These contributions highlight her technical skills and commitment to advancing geophysical research and applications.

Leadership and Involvement

During her studies at Universidad Central de Venezuela, Sofia Villanueva served as President of the Asociacion de Estudiantes de Geofisica (AEG) from 2011 to 2012. This leadership role allowed her to engage with peers and contribute to the academic community, fostering collaboration and promoting the field of geophysics among students.
