Michael has extensive experience in software development within the life sciences sector. Before his role at Berkeley Lab, he worked as a Research Assistant and Programmer at The RSCB Protein Data Bank from 2005 to 2006. He also held positions as a Research Intern and Java Programmer at BioDiscovery in 2004, and later served as Software Engineering Manager and Staff Software Engineer at Zymergen, Inc. from 2017 to 2021.
