About Jialun Chen
I am currently a forth year undergraduate student in the Dept. Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and the Dept. Biochemistry at the University of Toronto. I am interested in knowing how diseases affect living organisms in a molecular level, with what chemical reactions. However, understanding the underlying mechanism is not my end goal, but solely a start. I wish to utilize the knowledge we built and turn them into tools to tackle those horrific diseases haunting billions of lives in developing countries, especially microbial infections and the surging cancer pandemic. Apart from a world free of diseases and poverty, I am also making our world substainable and petroleum free. My current research focuses on producing compounds of interest in microorganisms. In the future I wish to pursue a research career in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, natural compounds discovery and production. I wish my involvement will make mankind a step closer to the sustainable future that many are striving for.
