Kat Engstrom has served as the EVEREST Laboratory Manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory since 2016. In this role, she has significantly increased the utilization of the EVEREST facility by 1,000%, enhancing its operational efficiency. Engstrom has represented the laboratory in science communication efforts, engaging with foreign dignitaries, politicians, and corporate executives. Her responsibilities also include leading education and outreach initiatives, such as during the 2017 solar eclipse, where she presented in the Traveling Science Fair trailer.
Previous Experience at University of Notre Dame
Engstrom held multiple positions at the University of Notre Dame from 2006 to 2010. She worked as a Tech Crew member at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center and served as a Student Building Manager at Washington Hall. Additionally, she was employed as an Engineering & Science Computing Tech, where she contributed to various technical projects. Her experience at the university laid a strong foundation for her subsequent career in technology and science communication.
Experience in Animation and Media
Engstrom worked as a Technical Assistant at Lucasfilm Animation from 2012 to 2013, where she gained experience in the animation industry. She also served as the Director of Emerging Media Technologies at the Knoxville Film & Music Festival from 2013 to 2014. In these roles, she facilitated media coverage and oversaw podcasts and hosted talks, showcasing her ability to blend technology with media and communication.
