Van Luu has held multiple roles at Russell Investments since joining the firm. He currently serves as the Global Head of Currency, a position he has held since 2019. In this role, he manages over $60 billion in currency exposures for clients and Russell Investments funds. Prior to this, he was the Head of Currency and Fixed Income Strategy from 2015. Luu also worked as a Senior Analyst in various capacities, including Capital Markets Research and Investment Process and Risk, from 2007 to 2010.

Van Luu has an extensive educational background in finance and economics. He earned a PhD in Economics from The University of Birmingham, where he studied from 1998 to 2001. He also holds a Master of Social Science (MSocSc) in Money, Banking, and Finance from the same university, completed in 1996. Additionally, he studied Business Studies at Universität Osnabrück, achieving a Diplom-Kaufmann from 1992 to 1997.

Before joining Russell Investments, Van Luu gained significant experience in the financial sector. He worked at Norges Bank Investment Management as a Senior Analyst focusing on Investment Policy from 2010 to 2015. Prior to that, he held positions at LBBW, where he served as Head of Bond Markets/Economics and as an Economist from 2000 to 2006. His career spans various roles in capital markets and investment strategy across different countries.
