She then served as Head of Quality for Saab Aerostructures from 1997 to 2003. From 2003 to 2007, she was the Program Manager for Direct Industrial Participation in the Gripen South Africa project, and later, she was the Head of Contracts in Saab Industrial Cooperation from 2008 to 2011.

Söderström holds a Master of Science in Engineering/Industrial Management from Linköping University, which she completed from 1986 to 1990. Additionally, she pursued studies in Political Science and Government at the same university for one semester. She has also completed professional training, including a Ledarskapsprogram at Ledarstudion in 2015 and a Diplomutbildning i styrelsearbete at Östsvenska Handelskammaren in 2010.
