Sandeep Chandra has held multiple roles at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) since 2003. He served as a Systems Architect for Grids and Clusters from 2003 to 2007, followed by a position as Technical Project Manager and Co-Principal Investigator for Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Development from 2007 to 2012. He then transitioned to a Technical Project Manager and Co-Principal Investigator for Health Cyberinfrastructure from 2009 to 2014. Since 2014, he has been the Director of Health Cyberinfrastructure, where he plays a pivotal role in defining and executing the strategic plan of SDSC and contributes to extramural projects within Sherlock.

Education and Expertise

Sandeep Chandra holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, obtained between 2000 and 2002. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Osmania University from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, he completed the UC IT Leadership, Innovation & Collaboration Program at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business in 2017. Currently, he is pursuing Executive Development in Leadership and Strategy in Science & Technology Management at the University of California, San Diego - The Rady School of Management since 2015.

Background

Before his extensive tenure at SDSC, Sandeep Chandra worked at North Carolina State University as a Research Assistant in the Computer Science Department from 2001 to 2002 and as a Teaching Assistant from 2000 to 2001. He also spent six months at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2003, focusing on Advanced Software Engineering Research. His career reflects a strong foundation in computer science and a commitment to advancing health cyberinfrastructure.

Achievements

Sandeep Chandra serves as the lead principal investigator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ MIG Data Engine program at SDSC. His work focuses on analyzing Medicaid claims and referential data to combat fraud, waste, and abuse. He is responsible for establishing collaborations and leading joint research and development activities in alignment with health initiatives set by various organizations, including CMS, DHHS, and NIH. His contributions enhance the strategic goals of the San Diego Supercomputer Center.
