About A. William (Bill) Musgrave, Jr.
I have been fortunate to be able to meld careers in Silicon Valley entrepreneurship, higher education, business, and the military. While in the U.S. Navy, I was engaged in major systems acquisition, contracting, supply chain management, logistics, financial management, and government procurement reform initiatives. Upon completion of my Navy service, I joined University of Maryland University College to lead a new graduate program in procurement and contract management. Subsequently, with ESI International, I developed corporate training courses and taught seminars in contracting, quality, and leadership, principally to project managers in major corporations. In 1996, I was recruited to join DRS Ahead Technology in Silicon Valley as VP strategic planning, becoming engaged in defense electronics and corporate acquisitions, including leading the purchase and turnaround of a Bulgarian magnetic head factory. In late 1990s I began a transition into global entrepreneurship. I was the co-founder of a startup in event ticketing market followed by founding an e-learning company. Next I was invited to help a struggling business incubator, The Enterprise Network (TEN) of Silicon Valley. In 2000 I became president of TEN and subsequently the organization's CEO. Responsibilities included managing a joint TEN-NASA program in technology commercialization. During my time at TEN, I had significant involvement in advising international delegations on entrepreneurship and innovation, in speaking and lecturing around the world and in establishing international bridges to Silicon Valley. Throughout my career, I have had an interest in teaching and have been a faculty member at 10 colleges and universities. My real world experience has been an important benefit in the classroom. Goals today include building upon my experience to perform research, write, publish, and to teach and inspire our future professionals and leaders.
