Alfred Lorber is currently the Agile SME in the Corporate Program Management Office (PMO) at Sandia National Laboratories. He has held this role since 2018 and is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this capacity, he co-founded and co-leads the Sandia Agile Community of Practice (CoP) and the Agile Working Group under the Corporate PMO. His position involves overseeing Agile practices and providing expertise to enhance project performance.

Alfred Lorber has held several key positions at Sandia National Laboratories throughout his career. From 2015 to 2018, he served as Release Train Engineer in the Next Generation System Architectures (6331) division. Prior to that, he was a Scrum Master and Agile Coach in the Computational Simulation Group (1540) from 2001 to 2015. In these roles, he played a significant part in multiple Agile transformations and facilitated coaching and team improvements.
Experience at ExxonMobil and Early Career
Before joining Sandia National Laboratories, Alfred Lorber worked at ExxonMobil as a Scientific Software Developer from 1996 to 2001. He was involved in software development for the Upstream Research Company in Houston, TX. Additionally, he gained hands-on research experience as a Research Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Aerospace Engineering from 1988 to 1996.

Alfred Lorber holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, completed in 1996. Prior to that, he earned a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University in 1988 and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1986. His strong academic foundation has been pivotal to his professional career in engineering and software development.
Contributions to Agile Practices
Alfred Lorber has made significant contributions to Agile practices, particularly within Sandia National Laboratories. He was instrumental in the launch of a major SAFe satellite ground system project involving 13 teams and 80 developers. He is also a certified SAFe SPC4 (Scaled Agile Framework Program Consultant). Lorber co-presented 'How to Design and Build Agile Team Rooms that Rock!' at the 2019 Agile in Government Conference and Agile2019, and has been involved in designing Agile team rooms with budgets up to $2 million.
