Rebekah Travis has held multiple roles at the Georgia Institute of Technology since 2018. She has been actively involved in different organizations, including the Student Competition Center Governing Board, Georgia Tech Off-Road (Baja SAE), Society of Women Engineers, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Besides performing as an officer in several positions, Rebekah has significantly contributed to student collaborations, diversity initiatives, and workspace reactivation amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previous Experience in Research and Robotics
Rebekah has accumulated research experience through various roles, including working with the Automotive LiDAR VIP Team and the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing at Georgia Tech. Additionally, she has experience as a Student Research Intern at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and the Fellowship of Orthopaedic Researchers. Her foundational experience in robotics was developed during her time as Captain & Mechanical Lead for the FIRST Robotics Competition Team 4087 - BFHS Falcon Robotics.
Educational Background
Rebekah Travis pursued her undergraduate studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology, achieving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that, she completed her high school education at Benjamin Franklin High School, where she graduated in 2018.
Leadership and Community Initiatives
During her tenure at Georgia Tech, Rebekah chaired the Student Competition Center Governing Board from Spring '21 to Fall '21 and served as Secretary in Fall '20. She led efforts to manage collaboration among over 500 students across multiple teams, directed the Outreach Committee to enhance campus presence, and initiated Women @ the SCC to support female team members. Additionally, she played a crucial role in restarting workspace operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
