I make a life as the co-founder and CEO of Sawa Sawa Collection (see more below)Sawa Sawa Collection is a 501c3 non profit, sustainable fashion social enterprise in Austin, Texas. We are a slow, ethical, fair, sustainable brand handmade by artisan women in Kenya using ancient tribal craftsmanship and natural, organic, eco-friendly, earth conscious and locally sourced materials. We provide every woman with the tools and materials to create, we buy the handmade products at a fair market price to give them an income and use the revenue to create lasting solutions to the unique challenges facing rural women in Kenya. A current major focus of our organization is keeping adolescent girls from our artisan villages in school by ending period poverty. Girls miss a week of school every month. Eliminating the burden, shame and stigma of menstruation, by providing menstruation kits and reproductive health education, girls have a choice of growing into empowered women. Our impact areas are women empowerment, female entrepreneurship, equality, cultural appreciation/preservation, poverty eradication, girl-child education, and ending period poverty.I have a background in Business administration, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Property Management. I worked under contract with the City of Austin as an Administrative Specialist and the State of Texas as an accounting auditor. I have worked in hospitality as an auditor for a boutique hotel and a luxury resort. I work as an assistant commercial property manager for lpc.com I have a Bachelors degree in Finance. I have post-graduate coursework in International Human Rights, Contract Law, Creativity-Innovation and Change, Social Impact Strategy, Strategic Social Media Marketing, Grant Writing and Crowdfunding.
