Susan Pieri has held multiple roles at Sightsavers, currently serving as the Head of Institutional Funding since 2021. She previously worked as the Associate Programme Director from 2020 to 2021 and initially held the position of Head of Institutional Funding from 2012 to 2020. During her tenure, she played a significant role in increasing the organization's institutional income from £10 million to £50 million. She also led the UK aid funded Disability Inclusive Development programme, Inclusive Futures, which received an A+ rating from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in December 2021.
Previous Experience
Before joining Sightsavers, Susan Pieri worked at the Department for International Development (DFID) in various capacities. She served as a Corporate, Change and Programme Manager from 2009 to 2011, and as a Policy Adviser at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport from 2007 to 2008. Her experience at DFID also includes roles as a Policy Analyst focusing on Global Environmental Assets from 2002 to 2004, and as a Deputy Programme Manager for Governance in Malawi from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, she worked as a Project Officer for Eastern Europe and Central Asia from 2000 to 2002.
Education and Expertise
Susan Pieri completed her A Levels at Invicta Grammar School in Maidstone, Kent, where she studied German, French, and Sociology. She furthered her education at the University of Portsmouth, obtaining a BA Honours degree in European Studies with a focus on German and Spanish. Her educational background supports her expertise in institutional funding and policy development, particularly in international development contexts.

Throughout her career, Susan Pieri has contributed to high-profile policy areas such as climate change and debt relief during her time at DFID.
