About Kimberly Ruth
I’m a recent graduate from the University of Washington with majors in computer engineering and math, a researcher enthusiastic about computer security, and an avid autodidact who likes to put the details of my work in a big-picture context. Donald Knuth once wrote that “It has often been said that a person does not really understand something until he teaches it to someone else. Actually a person does not really understand something until after teaching it to a computer.” I like to do both. I am a practitioner of the art of information transfer and processing in both humans and computers. My programming background and experience in security has taught me the value of clean, efficient code that is simple to modify or reuse, robust to targeted adversarial behaviors, and easy for both humans and computers to understand. My experience in mathematics has enhanced my analytical problem-solving skills and helped me understand the bounds of what is possible. My involvement in educational and team settings has led me to practice transparent verbal communication and value supportive interpersonal environments. I am eager to apply my technical and communication skills in collaborative research-based settings.
