About Luisa Ortiz Pérez
Dr. Luisa Ortiz Pérez is a strategic communications expert, gender-equality champion, civic media entrepreneur, design thinker and a nonviolent political action specialist. As the executive director and co-founder of Vita-Activa.org, a helpline to aid women journalists and freedom of expression defenders facing online violence and harassment based on gender. Most recently, she has worked to provide Psychological First Aid to journalists in contexts of natural and human disasters and the pandemic in Latin America and the US. Progressive Womens' Voices Fellow, Women Media Center; Take the Lead Women Journalists 2020 Cohort Graduate; Chicas Poderosas Academic Coordinator and US Ambassador, Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media 2018 Cohort Graduate and Member of the Online Harassment Initiative of the International Womens’ Media Foundation. Executive manager for Yahoo! Hispanic Americas, Televisa Interactive Media and Change.Org. She has been a producer for NPR, WNYC and the BBC. She holds a PhD in Ideology and Discourse Analysis from the University of Essex and qualifications in Psychological First Aid from Johns Hopkins University.
