About Mo Fong

As the Executive Director of STVP, the Stanford Engineering Entrepreneurship Center, I work with leaders and entrepreneurs who are passionate about tech+x to make a positive social impact by creating innovative products and services. My sweet spot has been in creating operations and technical teams, processes, and systems from the ground up to help businesses scale from hundreds to thousands to billions of users. Through this work, I've been able to empower entrepreneurs to be global citizens to create and scale responsible innovation. I've also seen first-hand the incalculable human impact of providing affordable payment solutions to small and medium businesses such as Google Pay and PayPal, broadening access to information via Google Search and Assistant, and preparing education leaders to elevate the quality of education for all students through programs such as the Stanford Educational Leadership Institute and products like Google Classroom. As an executive and career coach, I help individuals identify their core strengths and interests, and navigate their path to success. One of the greatest joys of my career has been building teams and investing in people. It’s been proven time and again that teams are only as good as their people. Finding, hiring and, most importantly, growing individuals so they can capitalize on their unique strengths. When we are pivoting to new beginnings, it’s also important to reflect, savor the journey and “smell the roses.” With leaders of organizations, I co-design structures and systems that value diversity of thought, draw out each team member’s capabilities, and find the right mix to achieve outstanding business outcomes. Our history, culture and identities have a profound impact on the way we work and how we find belonging in our communities. I support women of color and Asian executive leaders in tech to articulate their own authentic narratives. By shedding self-judgement and laying down the burden they may carry in striving to be a model minority, we can lead with more confidence, freedom, and joy. In coaching leaders to develop a signature leadership style, I encourage them to make decisions that balance the rational mind and the heart. I believe that we can be practical and business minded while living out our dreams and caring for others.
