About Douglas Stevens

Doug Stevens is director, Senior Counsel at Starbucks Corporation, serving for over 18 years as real estate counsel. As legal lead for a real estate portfolio of over 3,500 retail locations, offices, manufacturing, distribution, and other non-retail property, Doug provides strategic and legal advice to corporate leadership nationwide for implementation of retail innovation and operational transformation. Doug collaborates on mergers and acquisitions, as well as acquisition, development, expansion, and operation of manufacturing capability. Doug plays a key role supporting corporate sustainability initiatives, including incorporation of solar energy and electric vehicle charging to Starbucks real estate portfolio. Doug manages, directs, develops and coaches internal and external legal teams, as well as cross-functional internal financial administration, portfolio and asset management, utility, energy, and related support function teams. He is a highly respected legal professional with 24 years in-house experience, recognized as an inclusive leader, strategic partner, persuasive advocate, encouraging mentor and innovative problem solver in growth and dynamic changing environments. Doug joined Starbucks with seventeen years of experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel. Doug earned a B.S. Business Administration (Finance), a J.D. from the University of Southern California and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1989. Outside of Starbucks, Doug is a founder, director, and officer of Wells for Life®, a nonprofit addressing the need for clean drinking water in India with a holistic perspective. The organization works through indigenous partners who have a history of bringing positive change to an area through a variety of programs ranging from micro finance to medical camps, women empowerment as well as after school tutoring for school age children. Real estate legal lead for mergers and acquisitions, including acquisition, development and expansion of manufacturing capability and corporate sustainability initiatives.
