Howard Landa's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, completed from 1975 to 1979. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School between 1979 and 1983. Landa also completed a Surgical Residency at New York University from 1983 to 1985, followed by a Urology Residency at the University of California, San Diego - School of Medicine from 1985 to 1989. He further specialized in Pediatric Urology at Baylor College of Medicine from 1989 to 1990.

Landa has been actively involved in professional organizations throughout his career. He served as Vice-Chair of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems for 20 years, contributing to the advancement of medical informatics. Additionally, he chaired the HIMSS Physician Community for two years, focusing on the integration of health information technology in clinical practice.
